Congratulations on finding Villa Tunjung... Tucked away on a hillside in the village of Rangdu, in the heart of North Bali - volcanoes and crater-lakes to the East, a huge, untamed nature reserve to the West and the warm, crystal-clear, Dolphin-filled waters of the Bali Sea a few minutes to the North. Situated some 200 metres above sea level, on a hillside looking West towards the sunset, Villa Tunjung benefits from a perfect location. Cool breezes roll down from the (dormant) volcanoes, providing a markedly more pleasant climate than the more humid coasts. An underground river that flows cold, clear water down from the cooler highlands provides potable water, straight out of the tap*. The spacious, shaded terrace, overlooking the tropical garden and swimming pool, is the ideal place to retreat from the midday sun and enjoy fresh fruit cocktails or traditional Balinese food. There is also a Bale Begong – a traditional gazebo, next to the swimming pool, where you can drink, or dine or just recline and take a nap, lulled into a state of calm by the palm fronds rustling in the breeze overhead and the ornamental waterfall babbling gently into the pond. The swimming pool is 60m2 and has a small kiddie pool and outside shower. But to truly make the most of your experience here, you need to get out and about, into the landscape and amongst these smiling, generous people and their fascinating culture - and there are opportunities galore – the hardest part of your time here will be just choosing….. Whilst staying at Villa Tunjung you literally don’t have to lift a finger. The dedicated butler, will bring you anything you wish – breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks or drinks. He also cleans the house and will do laundry. If you require food for a picnic or a trip he can also arrange this in advance. The villa itself is on two levels. On the entrance level is a lounge with satellite television and large LCD TV. There is a small kitchen with sink, gas hob, large fridge and microwave. The lounge has French doors that open onto a broad, shaded veranda (50 m2). This has a cool, stone floor, a large rectangular dining table, dining chairs and bench seating at either end. Leading off the veranda is the master bedroom with double bed (Queen-size), wardrobe space, cabinets and a spacious, open-air, en-suite bathroom with toilet, shower, bath and wash hand basin. A stair connects the veranda to the souterrain and garden. The souterrain houses the second large bedroom with large French windows opening onto the garden. It also has a double bed (Queen-size), en-suite bathroom with shower, wash hand basin and toilet. Inset in the outside wall is a small bench next to the entrance to the third bedroom. This bedroom has bunk beds and a wash hand basin. next to this room is a third separate bathroom with shower and toilet. A utilityroom with washingmachine is underneath the bale begong. All bedrooms have remote-controlled air-conditioning. Full Board! Prices include all food (breakfast, lunch, 3-course dinner) and drinks (excluding alcoholic drinks - these may be ordered separately). Also included are cleaning, laundry and gardening, pool-cleaning, butler service, 24-hour security, use of mountain-bikes (2), Yamaha Scooter (120cc). Villa Tunjung - Other Information

Too many tourist destinations seek to dominate their surroundings – Villa Tunjung and Royal Residence Rangdu seek to do the opposite by finding ways to reduce the impact and increase the benefit to the community. Without a focus on sustainability, this harmonious relationship would not be possible - a principle that is so logical that it applies to all our activities here.

Villa Tunjung is essentially a low-impact destination. From the style of the architecture, which blends seamlessly into the landscape, to the relationship with the villagers, the entire ethos is one of mutual respect and trust. The villa itself is situated within the private park Royal Residence Rangdu (RRR) of (ultimately) nine luxury residential villas – all built in traditional Balinese-style, with enough greenery and space so as to ensure privacy. Just inside the main entry gate is a small compound where the security, kitchen and household services, drivers and gardeners are located.

Desa Rangdu, (Rangdu Village) is a small, unassuming community of about 500 families, roughly 10-minutes drive from the North Coast. The road to the mountains wends its way upwards from the small coastal town of Seririt through verdant sawas (rice paddies), passing by Rangdu on its way to the highlands at centre of the island. You won’t find any hotels in the neighbourhood. Or shops. Or bars. Or restaurants. Just village life, which goes on around you from sunrise to sunset, minding it’s own business, but greeting you with a broad smile should you happen to witness any of its captivating aspects. And you will. With so much happening on your doorstep you cannot fail to be part of it. Weddings and christenings, harvests and plantings, prayers and offerings weave their way in and out of your consciousness like wisps of incense wafting from roadside temples. The Hindu religion prevalent here forms a seamless part of everyday existence. It’s not part of a show – its daily life, North Bali style.
